Volunteer with St John Cymru Wales

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team.
Meet new people, learn new skills, see behind the scenes and help to save lives.

Why volunteer with us?

We know you’ll want to make a real difference when you volunteer but it’s not just about what you can do for others. Volunteers get a lot out of the experience too.

Give a little, gain a lot

Volunteering can help you to make new friends, enhance your CV, learn new skills and improve your confidence.

As Wales’ leading first aid charity, we’re a great organisation to be involved with if you want to pursue a career in health or social care too.

What we do

Every day our volunteers help keep local communities across Wales safe. We have lots of opportunities so you can gain experience volunteering at local, national or even international events.

Find the right role

You don’t need to have any previous first aid experience to volunteer with us.

Adult volunteers need to be over 18 years old but if you’re not over 18 yet, don’t worry, you can visit our young people section to find out about opportunities for you.

  • First aider - be part of a team that saves lives. As a first aider, you'll deliver care to people in need at public events in your community.
  • Working with young people - can you inspire the next generation of life savers? As a youth leader, you'll encourage young people from all walks of life to develop their potential.
  • Leadership positions - whether it's looking after your local division, or supporting a number of divisions in your area, as a volunteer leader you'll gain experience and develop your skills, and help us deliver our life saving work.
  • Support roles - we're also looking for volunteers who can lend their expertise to roles such as fundraising, human resources, safeguarding and recruitment.
  • Professional clinical roles - nurses, doctors and paramedics play a vital role for us at larger events. Clinical leaders support the professional development of our first aiders and help us keep our standards high.

Volunteer roles are flexible with hours to suit you. Whether you have family commitments, work full-time, you’re retired or currently unemployed, we have a role for everyone at St John Cymru Wales.

What you’ll get in return

Volunteering is a fantastic way to connect with your community. We’ll teach you first aid (whatever role you’ve signed up for) and provide you with equipment and uniform if required.

We’ll make sure you get the training and support you need.

Studying at university

Our student societies are also known as LINKS groups. They are run by students and designed to fit around studying and other commitments. We currently have LINKS in Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, Cardiff Metropolitan and Swansea universities.

Get involved

If you’d like to volunteer with us, simply fill in the registration form at www.sjaw.org.uk/register and find your local division. A member of the team will be in touch within 10 working days.
