About the Young Lifesaver Scheme

The new, revised Young Lifesaver Scheme (YLS) is extremely flexible and provides you the opportunity to teach First Aid to children between the ages of 7-16.

7-11 year olds are eligible for the Junior Lifesaver Award and the Senior Lifesaver Award is then eligible to children aged between 11-16.

The scheme has been specifically designed to be taught to Schools and Youth Groups in both Welsh and English.

The Teaching Guides we provide supplies all the information required to direct pupils through the course which covers the following topics:

  •     Primary Survey
  •     Recovery Position
  •     Choking
  •     Asthma
  •     Wounds, Bleeding & Shock
  •     Fractures
  •     Burns & Scalds
  •     Poisoning
  •     Heart Attacks
  •    Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

By teaching the YLS you are providing critical lifesaving skills to children and young adults.  These skills combined with learning to work in a team, decision making as well as personal and social responsibility all ultimately increase confidence and general citizenship.

The attributes mentioned all fall in line with the PSE curriculum. Follow the PSE link to see what exactly the curriculum entails.

St John Cymru Wales fully appreciate that every child is different, and in reflection of this we offer free supporting materials that are downloadable in order to reinforce the information and they are adaptable to suit the age and ability of your pupils, (click here for free websheets).
